Measures approximately 34 x 49 inches (86 cm x 124 cm) Painted in Paris 2001. Unframed / unstretched. Spanish-born artist Ignacio Burgos is one of the most renown contemporary artists – Latin or otherwise. His works, which portray anonymous men, women and children, in everyday activities evoke deep emotion, empathy and interest in the subjects. His paintings are vibrant, alive and exciting while at the same time provide the viewer with a chance to view the subjects in often private moments. Through his signature style of seemingly accidental splatters and drips, Burgos creates art that is, at the same time, both universal and personal. Ignacio Burgos is truly one of the foremost artists of his generation.

Vintage Sanborns Mexico Sterling Silver Sauce Boat

Beautiful vintage Sanborns Mexico sterling silver footed sauce boat. Measures approximately 8.5 inches long and 4.5 inches high. Weighs approximately 420 grams on a digital postal scale (roughly equivlent to 13.24 troy ounces). This is hallmarked with the three owls, Sanborns Sterling 0.925 then numbered 404. With the silhouetted eagle dating it to c.1955 - 1969. Eagle 1. Very good condition. Minor surface scuffs and scratches. No dings or dents.

Eames: The Best of Mid-Century Modern Furniture

Mid-century modern furniture may be all the craze, but it's not just a fad.   The mid-20th century was a fascinating time of design revolution.    Artists created lasting impressions in furniture and home decor, by merging clean simple lines (fantastic form), and relatively inexpensive materials into highly functional pieces.

Ray and Charles Eames epitomize the best of mid-century modern design.  And Chelsea Marketeers is pleased to represent some of their iconic pieces. Just in are two third edition Eames/Evans LCW chairs and a matching laminated coffee table.   

This is what design is all about!    Beautiful, functional, interesting, iconic.  Here's a little background on these pieces:

In the early 1940s, after working all day on MGM set designs, Charles Eames returned to his small L.A. apartment with his wife, Ray. Together the two designers worked through their evenings, using thin sheets of veneer and a bicycle-pump compressor to experiment with wood-molding techniques. The technology they developed during those late hours made their revolutionary furniture designs possible, including this modest chair that Time magazine recently named the Best Design of the 20th Century. The contours of its low and casual form cradle the human body more comfortably than one would imagine can be done by a wooden chair.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bid on the actual costumes used in the film Phoebe in Wonderland, starring Elle Fanning, Felicity Huffman, Patricia Clarkson, Campbell Scott and Bill Pullman. Also up for auction are props and memorabilia from the movie. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of these items will benefit the Tourette Syndrome Association.

PHOEBE IN WONDERLAND is the whimsical tale of a young girl (ELLE FANNING) who struggles to follow the rules. Perplexed by her inability to get along with the rule-obsessed world around her, Phoebe seeks enlightenment and comfort from her unconventional drama teacher (PATRICIA CLARKSON) and her sympathetic mother (FELICITY HUFFMAN). Brooklyn Flea Part 2

This weekend was Chelsea Marketeers' (ad)venture at the Brooklyn Flea and what a great event it was.   They've really created something special here.  In the midst of winter, when the holidays are over, and ironically there's very little to do in the city (ok, there are museums and movies), this is really a gem.   It doesn't matter what your budget is, you'll find something there.  It's a great way to spend an afternoon or morning - just browsing or shopping for that something special.

It really was a wonderful mixture of vendors - artists, high end boutiques, yummy food, and lots of vendors with rare and wonderful finds.   And every single one of them was nice and interesting!  Yes, this is New York. 

The really amazing thing is that there was such a steady flow of people coming.   It's nice to see people buying in this economy - maybe it's because there was something special to buy.  Combine that all, and you've got one happy event - interesting items, nice vendors, happy customers and a really pleasant set up.

Chelsea Marketeers did very well with some of our 20th Century Prints (Diego Rivera, Matisse, Ernest Trova) , mid-century modern furniture and our vintage Beefcake photos from Bruce of LA / Bob Mizer - plus just a lot of cool stuff!

Brooklyn Flea

This weekend, Chelsea Marketeers will make it's debut at the Brooklyn Flea in Dumbo.  During the warmer months they are located in Fort Greene, but January through March, they have a pop-up market indoors.  This is not your ordinary flea market.  Eric Demby has gathered together a group of the most interesting vendors with vintage furniture, clothing, collectibles and antiques.  There's lots of quality items at very reasonable prices.  

I don't know about you, but I'm so sick of the New York street fairs that seem to have nothing but corn, mozarepas, sunglasses and socks that the Brooklyn Flea is a breath of fresh air.

If you are in the New York area, stop by and say hello. I'll be there for part of the time, but Dana will be managing the booth.     We've been planning and preparing to make sure we have a great mix of product - ceramics, glass, furniture, collectibles, art, prints and more.

My Favorite Feedback of the Day

I'm a little crazed with the holiday rush, but I had to share one of my favorite feedback comments on eBay.  I just got this today!

"Ding-a-dang-dong!!! ---Totally AWESOME----You are my ebay role model !! --Miss Z"

I got very frustrated with eBay's feedback system.  It's not that I don't want to hear from my customers - I do!  With over 26,000 feedback comments received, I've only had two negatives (one was a nut case and one was a non-paying bidder!).    But I hate the fact that eBay actually uses it to determine fees, standing, etc.  It should just be a customer tool.

But anyway, I love the positive feedback, but I ESPECIALLY love when someone like Miss Z takes the time to write something meaningful and from the heart!  It made my Day!
